A '90s Danbury, CT band that released a bunch of 7"-ers on a slew of labels (MUDD, Rockville, SpinArt, etc) plus an EP ("Loser Friendly") on SpinArt, before signing with mini-major Seed for a full-length CD ("Destroy What You Love") and an EP of outtakes, compilation tracks, and single sides ("At One With Time"). Monsterland's Thom Monahan went on to play with bands like The Lilys, Pernice Brothers and Scud Mountain Boys, and has produced records by Devendra Banhart, Brightblack Morning Light, Lavender Diamond, and Vetiver, among others. Monsterland's Greg Vegas has performed with improv group Hat City Intuitive, and had a post-Monsterland band called Explodee which included as its members Bill Knapp (76% Uncertain, Shelter, Singing Bridges) and Joe Maddalena (Crooked Hook, Mountain Movers, Names for Pebbles).
The band SAVAK (pronounced "sah-vawk") was formed in 2015 by members of The Obits, Holy Fuck, Nation of Ulysses, and The Cops. Their influences range from '60s Texas psychedelia to British pub rock to early-'80s American hardcore, with some Zamrock and Chicha thrown in for good measure. Savak connect the dots from The Adverts to Bubble Puppy to The 101ers to MDC, making stops at Chrissy Zebby Tembo and Los Mirlos along the route. Their first album is coming out later this year on Comedy Minus One.
