Grammy Nominee, Blues Award Winner, Author, Harp Man Mark Hummel had a banner year in 2014. Grammy Nominated for his Remembering Little Walter CD he produced and performed on, Mark also won Best Blues CD and Best Traditional Blues CD at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis, TN. Mark's The Hustle Is Really Onclimbed to #2 and stayed in the top five for four months on the Living Blues Radio Charts. Hummel's book "BIG ROAD BLUES:12 Bars on I-80" garnered rave reviews and was nominated for best Independent Book release.
Mark Hummel started playing harmonica in 1970 and is considered one of the premier blues harmonica players of his generation. Thanks to over thirty recordings since 1985, including the Grammy nominated 2013 release Blind Pig recording Remembering Little Walter (part of the Blues Harmonica Blowout CD series). Mark Hummel's Blues Harmonica Blowout™ started in 1991 and have featured every major legend (Mayall, Musselwhite, Cotton, etc.) on blues harp as well as almost every player of note on the instrument - a who's who of players.
Hummel is a road warrior - a true Blues Survivor. Along the way, he has crafted his own trademark harmonica sound - a subtle combination of tone, phrasing and attack combined with a strong sense of swing. Mark has been with Electro Fi Records since 2000, releasing five CDs. Thanks to Mark's earlier albums, constant touring and appearances at the major blues festivals, he's firmly established his solid reputation around the US and Europe.
Quotes:
Mark Hummel is one of the very top notch guys on the Blues Harmonica scene today.
He’s a great traditional player”
- Billy Boy Arnold
"Hummel, a specialist in West Coast Blues, knows a thing or two about about how to please an audience"
- New Yorker
"Hummel plays the harmonica with the fat, full sound that made Little Walter sound almost like a saxophonist rather than a harp man".
-Chicago Sun-Times
“Mark Hummel is a Harmonica Virtuoso. He is one of a handful of the Best Players ever on the Instrument”.
– Blues Revue Magazine
"Harmonica ace Mark Hummel has always surrounded himself with top notch talent.
Hummel certainly spends time on center stage with both his vocals and harmonica, most prominently on the instrumental "Walking with Mr. Lee". Top notch from start to finish, skip this one at your peril."
- Mark Smith/Music Revue
Funderburgh undeniably remains best known in the blues field for his extraordinarily concise lead guitar attack. In addition to anchoring his latest iteration of The Rockets, he’s been touring since 2010 with Bay Area-based harmonica player Mark Hummel as a prime factor in the Golden State-Lone Star Revue. Another frequent musical cohort is New Orleans multi-instrumentalist Eric Lindell; they’ve recorded and toured together on a regular basis, including six appearances at the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Funderburgh’s unmistakable style, tone and sensibility has made him one of contemporary blues music’s most important guitar players. Once a clean-cut up-and-comer on the national blues scene who’s crisp, biting guitar licks belied his soft-spoken manner, Anson has developed into a legacy artist and his influence on countless guitarists is immeasurable.

MDC
MDC is an American punk rock band formed in 1979 in Austin, Texas, subsequently based in San Francisco, and currently Portland, Oregon. Among the first wave of bands to define the sound and style of American hardcore punk, MDC originally formed as The Stains; they have periodically changed the meaning of "MDC", the most frequent being Millions of Dead Cops. The band's lyrical content expresses radical left political views and has proven influential within the punk subculture.
MDC released material through ex-Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra's independent label Alternative Tentacles. In the 1990s, vocalist Dave Dictor published editorials for the internationally distributed fanzine Maximumrocknroll. MDC's initial run ended in 1995, and the band spent five years on hiatus, before returning in 2000 with some new band members.

Maiko Newell spawned Rakefire in his bedroom early in 2018 while in another punk band. After he was kicked out of that band he went all in the idea of Rakefire. He finished writing the first EP, then recorded with Ben Lionetti (Emmure, Lakeshore) before pitching it to his friends Patrick Foti, Gio Gomez and Luis Albir. They backed his idea and started playing shows immediately.
Maiko met producer and Audio Engineer Ryan Harvey through instagram and immediately started working together. Rakefire's first LP "Pushing up Daisies" was released right when the pandemic started canceling their short run and release show for this album. They spent the rest of the time during the pandemic writing and releasing music which included "Existing & Resisting" (EP), "BAD DOG" (Single) and "war in my head" (Single)
A couple lineup changes happened in 2022 but with no negative impact. Rakefire finally got to hit the road and cement themselves as a real DIY band.

Singer-songwriter Jeff Burnham takes listeners on a journey across a gritty, haunted landscape, where sunlight flickers through the rain, framed in the tradition of Americana and folk-rock with heartland rock elements.
Music journalist and author Chip McCabe describes Jeff’s first record, Hard Luck Town as “down home and soulful… the perfect complement to an album collection that includes acts like Son Volt and Wilco.” A 2019 track by track review of the “Lost and Found” EP by columnist Myemuisemo described various songs as “Americana … with a touch of 1990s-era alt-rock optimism” and “Outlaw workingman’s blues.”
“The Insiders” is a moniker for recording projects and live band shows. During the pandemic, Jeff has been writing and recording in his home studio. His latest single releases include “State of Mind,” “What You Learned,” “Jaded,” and “Doing Hard Time.”
Typical solo & band performances include shows at breweries, bars, performance halls, arts & cultural venues, city sponsored music events, and music festivals. Jeff hopes to restart “Live at the Barn,” a limited music series he created to bring more exposure of his favorite regional acts to the local area.
Haunted by hooks and good old-fashioned songcraft, Brian Larney is an eclectic, non-stop music making machine. The multi-instrumentalist and Connecticut native splits his time performing as a solo acoustic act and as the front-man of the Brian Larney Band. He's an alternative folk-rock singer-songwriter with an honest and thoughtful style that has been described as “quirky, earnest, and vulnerable.” It’s as rooted in the pop music writers of the mid-1960’s as the contemporary artists that he is often compared to.
Larney grew up in the Northeast obsessed with well-crafted songs and the art of harmonizing. “ We didn't have a piano, so I would get to school at 6:00 AM and sneak into the choir room just to pick out songs and work on harmonies,” he says. As a songwriter, his early efforts were he says, “overly complicated 7-minute opuses.” Through his varied tastes as a listener—which span pop to bluegrass—and work as a gigging musician touring within a diverse array of bands, he gradually essentialized his unique songwriting style.

The Minks
The Minks are part of Nashville's psychedelic music scene, heavy on the rock and roll. We're talking low-down, all the way, purse-lipped, eyes-shut, head-whirling kind of groove. In 2015, on a search for creative community, Nikki Barber started the band based on the idea that "if you don't create, you'll combust". Just like a rock and roll circus, you never know what you're going to get, but you know it'll be good. The band's palpable sound has roots in every music fan's top ten—from Lou to Patti to Creedence to Hank - but blends them into something totally original and current. Mixed with raw, jangly instrumentation and soulful saccharine vocals, it's as much a throwback as it is an answer to the often overlooked underbelly of Nashville's rock and roll scene. Look for them, on tour forever, spreading the gospel of letting your hair down and having a good time.
The Minks are here. Let's boogie.

Tony Dioguardi is a Connecticut based jazz and blues guitarist who has performed with Jaimo's Jazz Band, Bernard Purdie, Jim Oblon, Guitar George Baker, Laco Deczi and Rickie Miller.
Arms Like Roses is an outfit that sprung up out of Connecticut’s DIY scene taking a true punk approach by self-recording demos, making their own merch by hand, playing any basement or bar they could, and placing a strong emphasis on charity and meaningful activism. With a sound rooted in the late 90s/early 00s second-wave emo scene akin to acts like Rainer Maria, Mineral, and Benton Falls, the band add a unique modern edge and youthful energy to the style that makes them fit right in alongside current punk and alternative rock acts like Mannequin Pussy and Hop Along.
Women in Peril is Chase Lipman, Kalika Reece, Soraya Rafat, Jaxon Lane, and Daisy Soper. They are Boston-based dog rock.
Cameron Lane: Fuzzy, electric, and wholly handmade. Cameron Lane is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter and producer hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina. Her debut EP, Creature, saw every obsession from throughout each era of lane’s life coalesce: it featured the self-aware and earnest lyricism of Taylor Swift, explosive guitars and anthemic melodies of My Chemical Romance and Paramore, indie sensibilities of Haley Blais and Cavetown— even the offbeat chiptune of Toby Fox. Her DIY recording style made a natural pair with songs about anxiety, embarrassment, vulnerability, and being a teenager growing up alongside the internet. Her newest release, Backseat (December 6th, 2022), sees lane at her most sure-footed yet. After the release of Creature, she learned how to play guitar, relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, and formed a live band with close friends and collaborators Sam Anderson, Sonny Cornell, Daisy Soper, and Ashleigh Wulf. Still leaning into the bedroom recording where she’s the most comfortable, lane now prefers to be categorized among other indie rock acts such as Soccer Mommy, Indigo De Souza, and Sidney Gish. However, in combining her roots with her new surroundings and startling sincerity, lane crafts a sound that is entirely her own.

Wednesday, June 21, all roads lead to the Go Skateboarding Day 2023 Afterparty at cafe nine. This event is free with a suggested donation of $15 that goes to supporting Push To Start Skateboarding, a nonprofit founded by Newhallville native Steve Roberts that makes skateboarding more accessible to youth through lessons and free/subsidized gear, and also help build and maintain the free public skateparks throughout New Haven, most notably Edgewood Park and the recently constructed Scantlebury Skatepark.
Go Skateboarding Day was created by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) in 2004, to promote events in major cities around the world to help make skateboarding more accessible. Just like us here at GoSkate, the goal has always been to encourage more people to skate for the first time.
As a testament to the holiday, Go Skateboarding Day is sometimes referred to as International Skate Day, as what started in the US has since spanned to every corner of the globe.
Go Skate Day has grown to become a global event, with thousands of skaters celebrating in cities around the world. It’s a day that promotes the positive aspects of skateboarding, including creativity, community, and healthy physical activity, and helps to bring the skateboarding community closer together.
Push To Start Skateboarding is a program based in New Haven, specifically in the Newhallville neighborhood. Founder and veteran skateboarder, Steve Roberts is also a ‘Ville’ native and created this program to make skateboarding more accessible to kids and provide more well-rounded representation of the sport. These lessons are FREE and if your child doesn’t have their own, the program does have helmets and boards on hand to use. The lessons begin at the Stetson Branch Library located on Dixwell Avenue so participants can meet each other and their instructors and learn the basics before heading over to Scantlebury Park to practice.

Konrad Wert is a man of many voices. As a Special Education teacher, he is articulate and intentional. As an advocate for justice in education he is passionate. But as an artist and musician, better known by his stage name, Possessed By Paul James, his voice is expressive, holding rest and action in tandem. After gaining recognition from NPR, The New York Times, CMT, and MTV for his celebrated live performances and 2013 Billboard-charting breakout release, There Will Be Nights When I’m Lonely, the Golden Apple-winning educator took some time to reflect and reorient and underwent two vocal surgeries. “The nature of being a school teacher, a public speaker, and a musician, you know, any ear nose & throat specialist will tell you that’s like a hat trick for getting a vocal surgery. So there was some time where I needed to really learn how to sing fluidly and in a healthy way while preserving the opportunity to continue as a teacher and articulate, speak, without duress.” After a few years away from music, Wert is returning with a new album, As We Go Wandering, (due January 31, 2020), bringing a rejuvenated voice to Possessed By Paul James. Where There Will Be Nights was crying out on behalf of the dilemmas faced by families, students, and teachers nationwide, As We Go Wandering brings a sense of peace. But as the title suggests, in Possessed By Paul James’ estimation, perhaps counterintuitively, peace, rest, and movement dance hand in hand.
Possessed By Paul James is.” “As We Go Wandering is about the question of where we go from here. How do we move forward,” says Konrad Wert. This tension is expressed at the very center of the tracklist, with “Be At Rest.” “All across the nation teachers see the same needs, fill the same roles, and ask the same hard and troubling questions: Students who are hurting, families fighting for the rights of their children, passionate teachers who constantly bear burdens that can become crushing,” says Wert. “Most troubling and devastating are the increasing numbers of human beings that are falling to violence within our schools. ‘Be At Rest’ provides an open image and feeling to all those hurting: ‘Raise up your voices, lay down down your sword and shield, be at rest. Come together on the foundations of peace and justice so we may heal, so we may help, so we may learn in order to do better for our children.’” So what about the name, Possessed By Paul James? “It’s partly just because of the way we play, maybe it’s due to anxiousness or anxiety, I don’t know, but just close the eyeballs and get it out,” says Wert. “But also, Paul was my grandfather, James is my dad’s middle name - so it’s a reference to something bigger than me, that there is something greater than ourselves, something that we’re in together. It’s important for us to acknowledge and be honest about that - the good, the bad, and the ugly. We are more than just ourselves.”
“Frank Critelli’s a Connecticut music scene icon: co-host of WPLR’s Sunday night “Local Bands Show,” host of myriad music showcases over the years in local coffeehouses and clubs and a diehard fan of the scene.
He’s also one of the most prolific members of it, mostly as a solo artist but as leader of bands as far flung as Brutally Frank and The FCB, and collaborations with the late Norman Cross, The Bargain, and others.
Critell’s often shorthanded as a sensitive folk singer, but he can be darker and weirder than that, something “The Muse EP” proves handily. There are dashes of psychedelia and Beatlesesque whimsy, with welcome COVID-era plaints of patience, understanding and peace.”

Olive Tiger is an evolution of sound and texture: a nontraditional rock trio that lushly combines electronics with organic elements of chamber-pop, defying the boundaries of genre in favor of obsessive exploration. Olive Tiger features an unusual collection of instrumentation featuring Olive (cello, guitar, vocals), Jesse Newman (violin, synths, electronics), and John McGrath (drums, percussion).
The group’s sophomore collection, a series of EPs titled Softest Eyes, continues the expansion of their sound palette with Side B. Softest Eyes: Side B features distinctly-crafted tracks ranging from disarmingly sunny to alluringly moody, drawing from a full and complex range of human experiences.
Olive Tiger has shared the stage with a growing roster of notable musicians including Dirty Projectors, Kishi Bashi, Xenia Rubinos, and Kyp Malone (of TV on the Radio), and has garnered growing attention for its work. The band was named Emerging Artist of the Month by The Deli Magazine, and received a nomination for Best in State for the New England Music Awards. Olive Tiger was also honored with an Artist Excellence Fellowship Award from The Connecticut Office of the Arts.

Dunia Best and Aram Sinnreich (Dunia & Aram) have been writing and playing music together for over two decades, and have been married for almost as long. They have performed around the world as a duo and with their bands Dubistry and Brave New Girl. Their songwriting ranges through a wide swath of styles, from punk to reggae to soul to folk to jazz. “One of These Days”, written with keyboardist Todd Nocera, was selected as a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. Their work with guitarist Matt Urbania blossomed into critically acclaimed compositions like the acoustic ska classic “Roll Away.”
Dunia & Aram have collaborated with a wide range of artists around the world. Together, they have contributed songs and/or performances to groups including traditional folk band Low Lily, disco producer Hans Nieswandt, post-punk legends Vivien Goldman and Ari-Up, reggae powerhouse King Django, multi-instrumentalist Ahmondylla Best, Malian griot Cheick Diabate, world music collective Tributary Project, and post-ska supergroup The Specialized Project. Individually, their collaborators have included ska band Heavensbee, post-bop group The Rooftoppers, and all-women ska ensemble Rude Girl Revue, among others. Their music has taken them from the Atlantic to the Pacific, with performances around the world at venues in Japan, Germany, the UK, at numerous festivals, and on live television and radio appearances.
Dunia Best has been performing on multiple instruments since childhood. She studied vocal technique with Yolande Bavan and percussion with Ahmondylla Best. As a teenager, she performed as a singer, flutist and percussionist off-Broadway in the production Channel to Channel and created an a capella group who performed for members of the Broadway show Sarafina. After a stint with ska band, the Slackers, Dunia created the band Agent 99 (Moon Records, Shanachie Records) with Jay Nugent, Alec Baillie and Ara Babajian. After Alec’s departure in 1995, Dunia hired Aram Sinnreich to play bass.
Aram Sinnreich has been playing music professionally since he started busking on the streets and subways of NYC as a teenager in the late 1980s. After studying jazz performance and theory with Anthony Braxton and Jay Hoggard at Wesleyan University, as well as classical composition at the Mannes School of Music, he began playing bass in the Lower East Side music scene, performing at venues ranging from The Knitting Factory to Continental to Wetlands.
Dunia & Aram formed Brave New Girl in 1995 with keyboardist Todd Nocera (formerly of Thumper and Groove This), combining their multi-genre songwriting talents to develop a new style of music that fused reggae, jazz, and R&B, on the cusp of the neo-soul revolution. In 2002, Dunia and Aram relocated to Los Angeles and teamed up with guitarist Matt Urbania (of the Easy Star All-Stars and No-Shadow Kick) and drummer Ahmed Best (of Jazzhole, Stomp, and the Star Wars film franchise) to form Dubistry, a new band that infused break-beat logic into their reggae, ska, and soul roots. Dunia, Aram, and Matt all returned to NYC in 2007, where they rejoined forces with Nocera and recorded several albums as Dubistry and Brave New Girl while playing extensively with both bands.
Since relocating to the Washington, DC area in 2015, Dunia & Aram have focused more extensively on their work as a duo, inaugurating their latest new project with a series of “Quarantunes” live-streamed from their home studio during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. They began collaborating with Hans Nieswandt in 2016 when they recorded the single #LetUsLive at the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Bochum, where Aram was giving a lecture on hip-hop and copyright. Hans immediately became their new partner in musical crime, frequently using both Dunia & Aram for his disco productions (such as the Protest Disco EP and the Flower Hans album) and producing new singles they wrote and recorded with Brave New Girl from the USA.
Dunia & Aram recorded their first album as a duo, Bedfellows (GMO Records, 2022), from their Silver Spring, MD home studio, collaborating with producer Hans Nieswandt in Seoul and mastering engineer Numinos in Cologne. Their first single from the album, “It’s Never Easy, Si,” spent several months on the radio charts, reaching #2 on the World Indie Music charts in 2023.

W.H. Ranch Dungarees, J.S. Sloan, and Ralph Lauren. Coast to coast,
prime time, and regional television programs such as, The Late Show with
David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The View, Today Show
and more. He has also been a regular voice on various
satellite/AM/FM/internet radio programs.
Eddie originated the role of, and was featured as Elvis Presley in the
hit Broadway musical “The Million Dollar Quartet”, where he performed 8
shows a week to packed houses racking up over 2200 performances! He
also helped create and starred in the show “Heartbreak Hotel” that is
currently the only Elvis Presley stage bio endorsed by the Elvis Presley
estate, SONY Music and RCA and has had successful record breaking runs in Los Angeles, Ogunquit, Chicago, and Las Vegas. He’s continued to be seen on stage in plays
and tribute shows to many of the other greats as well, Buddy Holly, Johnny
Cash, and Carl Perkins to name a few. And he continues to be in demand
wherever fans of ROCK & ROLL gather.
It seems Eddie is also beginning to get some much deserved
acclaim, thanks to the release of his four studio albums to date;
“Sometimes It Rains”, "Eddie Clendening Is... Walkin' And Cryin’”, “Eddie Clendening Is... Knockin’ At Your Heart”, and “Eddie Clendening Is… The
Rage Of The Teen-Age!”, as well as several singles and compilation
inclusions.
He, along with The Blue Ribbon Boys continue to work hard
spreading the gospel of genuine American ROCK & ROLL far and wide to
anybody willing to listen.”
Matt Codina - Guitar
Matt Codina is a Northern California native and now Las Vegas based finger-style guitar player. Shortly after picking up guitar he discovered the main influences that would become the basis of the style he sought to base his playing on, Chet Atkins and Merle Travis. After primarily playing as a solo guitarist and with various bands in Utah he moved to Orange County and shortly after started playing with Eddie Clendening and working on the show Heartbreak Hotel. Together they would travel with the show across the US for 6 years eventually ending their time with it in Las Vegas in 2020 all while continually touring as Eddie Clendening and the Blue Ribbon Boys when not running Heartbreak Hotel. An expert in finger style guitar Matt is also well versed in many styles such as Country, Rockabilly, Rock and Roll, Jazz, Bluegrass and Gypsy Jazz.
Jonny Bowler - Upright Bass
Jonny Bowler has been playing upright bass since the early 80’s. Influenced by the rhythmic bass heard on the early Sun recordings of Elvis Presley, and bands like the Johnny Burnette Trio, Bill Haley and his Comets, etc... The resurgence of Rockabilly music in the UK lead to many opportunities to play and travel all over Europe. Early success with his group “Get Smart” led to an album deal with Nervous Records. In 1988 he joined Guana Batz, initially as the drummer but switched to upright bass after a few years. He played and recorded with The Caravans and The Frantic Flintstones before a move to the US in ‘96 where he continued to record and play with numerous top acts. Wanda Jackson, Guana Batz, Levi Dexter, The Polecat’s, Slim Jim Phantom, Lemmy, and Rosie Flores to name but a few. The last few years he’s been the regular bass player for Eddie Clendening and the Blue Ribbon Boys and spent a few months as the bass player for the Las Vegas show Elvis Presley’s Heart Break Hotel in concert. Most recently he has become the regular bas player for Cash’d Out.
He continues to be a sought after musician for both live performances and recording projects. His energy on stage and effortless playing style has become influential for a generation of double bass players that have grown up in his footsteps.
It’s ROCK & ROLL SHOW, with explosive young front man Eddie and the Blue Ribbon Boys, watch them cut through the clutter and give you a ROCK & ROLL show that you’ll NOT soon forget.

Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys
Since forming in 1988 in Southern California, Big Sandy and His Fly- Rite Boys have become one of the world’s most beloved Americana/ Roots acts, drawing from the deep musical waters that flow just beneath the surface of Rock & Roll’s fertile soil. A childhood passion for Country, Doo-Wop, and Rhythm & Blues 45s led Sandy (born Robert Williams) to pursue a singing career as a teenager, beginning a life in music that continues decades later. And as his personal record collection continues to grow (75,000 and counting), so does the depth of the musical influences that stream through his songwriting and singing style. A critically acclaimed tribute to Tex- Mex hero Freddy Fender, released at the beginning of the 2020 lockdown, points the way forward for Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys as they continue on a path of musical growth. After nearly 35 years on the road, and more than two dozen releases to their credit, they remain key figures on the ever-changing Americana circuit, both on record and in live appearances.
"Big Fat Combo is a super cool band- it’s hard to put it any other way. They play rootsy American music, mixing well crafted originals with a surprising pick of left field cover tunes. A solid rhythm section featuring stand up bass, a charismatic hero-type front man and a guitarist who makes the most wonderful bunch of noises come out of his instrument, all combine to a groovy rock experience.. Their debut CD may be taking longer to finish than the latest Axl Rose piece, but it will be worth the wait.

“You’ve heard our name, you’ve seen our records, our t-shirts and our stickers. We’re probably the favorite band of someone you know and yet maybe we’re still a mystery to you. Well my friend, that’s okay, you’re at the right place to get to know the greatest rock-n-roll band in the world, The Supersuckers.
And the next time you see the ‘Supersuckers’ name, whether it’s in the record store, online somewhere, or on the marquee at your local rock club, know that there’s some quality, honest, ass-kicking, hard working individuals behind it all trying to make your life a little better through the “Evil Powers Of Rock-n-Roll” (and the occasional detour into the country music, of course) and we’d love nothing better than to have you there with us as! Just remember to wear clean underwear, ‘cuz we’re gonna rock the pants right off of you!”

Southern Culture On The Skids has been consistently recording and touring around the world since 1983. The band (Rick Miller – guitar and vocals, Mary Huff – bass and vocals, Dave Hartman – drums) has been playing together for over 30 years. Their musical journey has taken them from all-night North Carolina house parties to late night TV talk shows (Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show), from performing at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan to rockin’ out for the inmates at North Carolina correctional facilities. They’ve shared a stage with many musical luminaries including Link Wray, Loretta Lynn, Hasil Adkins and Patti Smith. Their music has been featured in movies and TV, parodied by Weird Al, and used to sell everything from diamonds to pork sausage. In 2014 the band was honored by the Southern Folklife Collection at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with an exhibition featuring their music and cultural contributions. Their legendary live shows are a testament to the therapeutic powers of foot-stomping, butt-shaking rock and roll and what Rolling Stone dubbed “a hell raising rock and roll party.”
At Home with Southern Culture on the Skids is the latest full length album from the band and was released in March of 2021. It was recorded during the stay at home period of the pandemic when the band was at home and not touring. The album consists of 11 tracks recorded and mixed in Rick Miller’s living room with some additional tracks recorded at his studio, The Kudzu Ranch.
The first radio single off the album is “Run Baby Run”—a rocking number with deep garage roots. SCOTS bassist Mary Huff provides an urgent vocal while the band pulls back the throttle on a full race fuzz fest—cause she’s gotta to go fast! Run Baby Run!
The other songs on the album are a combination of the band’s unique mix of musical genres: rock and roll, surf, folk and country—all a bit off-center, what Rick proudly calls “our wobbly Americana”. Rick goes on, “We put a few more acoustic guitars on this one, as you would expect if you recorded in your living room, but it still rocks like SCOTS. So put your headphones on, get in your favorite chair/sofa/recliner, put on “At Home With” and let’s hang out for a while.”
Guitar riffs as lumpy as a camel, rough as a jackhammer or smooth and bright as Tennessee sippin’ whiskey, all slung loose and loud over salacious beats - No Depression
For over thirty years, Southern Culture On The Skids have played an eclectic range of Americana including rockabilly, surf rock, country and R&B, with a punk edge and heaps of humor. They are known for their legendary live shows and wacky antics...But it’s more than just great fun; they are fantastic musicians to boot. - Elmore Magazine
This Chapel Hill-based trio is flat-out amazing. Without resorting to needless flash or attention-hungry showboating, Miller in particular is one of the most spectacularly gifted guitar players I’ve ever seen. He juggles a lot of styles – country, garage rock, surf, rockabilly and soul to name just a few. - Stomp & Stammer

An Evening with Welsh guitar phenom JAMES OLIVER
Welsh guitar phenom James Oliver with his band makes their New Haven debut.
James won the Emerging Artist of the Year Award at the 2020 UK Blues Award and this year his band was nominated for the 2023 UK Blues Band of the Year Award. He plays high-energy Blues, Rock n roll and rockabilly. James Oliver has already rubbed shoulders with many of the greats of the guitar firmament Albert Lee..Bill Kirchen..Greg Koch to name a few Now, having recorded three vital, very contemporary albums, he is preparing to write a new chapter of not only his career but also Welsh music history.
James Oliver plays a "fiery mix of blues, rockabilly, rock and roll with lashings of true rhythm and blues on the side,'' according to one recent review.
"He and the band put a fresh complexion on the sounds of Duane Eddy, Link Wray and a bit of Hank ... " the review said. His progress since forming Glas in early 2012 has been steady with nearly 2000 gigs since, playing every gig in the Valleys before expanding horizons beyond. See him on stage, though, and spectacular is very much the word. Little wonder the late, great Deke Leonard of Man/Iceberg fame was moved to say that ‘Speaking as a guitarist, James Oliver scares the hell out of me.’ Bill Kirchen says .James Oliver is the real deal, a passionate roots rocker loaded with guitar firepower.
As music business veterans will tell you, success is 10 per cent inspiration and 90 per cent perspiration. As he enters the next stage of his career, James Oliver has a track record that shows he will not allow an ounce of his talents to be wasted. And with new musicians to interact with, chances are the music in store will exhibit hitherto unheard dimensions to delight his growing army of fans.
Oliver, 31 can give you a long list of inspirational American musicians. Meanwhile, on his 2020 album, "Twang," Oliver plays blues, rockabilly, rock and country and it is all original material. He won a Blues "Emerging Artist Of The Year" award.…it’s all here in one explosive pickin package.
“James Oliver is one of the UK’s most revered and incredible next generation guitar masters,” said Giles Robson, a multi-award-winning blues harmonica icon from the United Kingdom.
John Leckie, the legendary producer for John Lennon, Pink Floyd and Sammy Hagar, called Oliver the “Best guitarist in the UK.”
Blues in Britain Magazine said that Oliver is regarded as “a force of nature in his native Wales, an R&B icon in Sweden, and a guitar hero to his social media fans.”

Cheryl Wheeler has to be seen to be appreciated. Nothing you read and nothing you hear from her albums prepares you for how good a performer she is.
You may not be familiar with Cheryl, but you have probably heard her music. She is very respected as a songwriter by her peers, which can be seen by how many of them record her songs. Chery's songs have been covered by artists as diverse as Dan Seals, Peter Paul and Mary, Kenny Loggins, Garth Brooks, Suzy Boggus, Melanie, Bette Midler, Maura O'Connell, Sylvia, Kathy Mattea, and Holly Near. If they think she is great, then you owe it to yourself to learn more if you aren't familiar with her.
From her albums you can tell that she is a gifted songwriter with a beautiful voice. From other people's comments about her you can learn that she is a natural story teller with a fantastic sense of humor. But until you see her in person, you never really believe what you've been told about her. Besides, almost half of the songs she does during her shows haven't been recorded!
In a world where there are no more heroes,The Fleshtones walk the earth like Roman gods.
Since their inception in 1976 in Queens, New York, and their sweaty, boozy gestation at legendary venues such as CBGB, Max’s Kansas City, and the storied Club 57— recently feted at the Museum of Modern Art, where their proto-video underground film“Soul City” was unspooled for art stars, glitterati, and a raft of punk rockers who managed to get past the front gate — they have perpetrated their proprietary brand of SUPER ROCK, a frenetic amalgam of garage punk and soul, punctuated by the big beat and unleashed with the spectacular show business majesty which has kept them on the road for over forty years, adored by audiences whose love for them borders on religious fervor.
And yet their new record, Face of the Screaming Werewolf, has charted faster than any of their previous twenty or so releases, hitting Billboard’s Top 50 in half a dozen categories including, oddly, the Top Ten of “Alternative New Artists,” which just proves, again, that SUPER ROCK shows no signs of wear and tear.
Face of the Screaming Werewolf is a smash that could have dropped at any point in their epic career — it is an outburst, and a celebration of the SUPER ROCK sound. Unlike erstwhile pioneers the Rolling Stones, they have not dialed down the tempos to compensate for osteoporosis, they have not lost anything on their fastball, and continue to throw it for strikes.
The secret to the Fleshtones’ success has been never copping the sound of another era — the closest they come is an uncanny ability to look good in paisley — while barely acknowledging the times in which they live.
On Face of the Screaming Werewolf, the Fleshtones remain an unstoppable force for good. They brooked no false meanness, studied cynicism, arty ennui, or the lyrics of the jaded. Songs like “Swinging Planet X” fulfill the promise of Bo Diddley-style outer-space blues stomp, while “Spilling Blood at the Rock’n’Roll Show” splatters happily, fueled by stinging guitars and group hollers. Add to this a jangly ode to the most peerless of game show hosts, Alex Trebek, and a half dozen more songs dusted with British Invasion harmonies and touches of dirty psychedelia — including the title track, inspired by one of the greatest, unsung films of our time — all delivered with the Fleshtones’ indelible mojo, and you are holding a slab truly worthy of the SUPER ROCK championship belt.
Their records aren’t throwbacks — the Fleshtones aren’t rediscovering rock’n’roll any more than Mike Tyson was rediscovering boxing just because he had his hair cut like Joe Louis. Tyson’s truth lay in a freight train of a right hook, and if he looked good for the knock-out punch, if he was a heavyweight champion with style, then so it goes for the Fleshtones, whose off-hand charm, polished nightclub act, and dance appeal did not replace primal rock’n’roll as the coin of their realm, it just inflated its value.
The Fleshtones’ SUPER ROCK sound literally defines American Beat Music, and they have delivered their message with evangelistic passion, always skirting the edges of the mainstream without pandering to any obvious fad or trend. They have appeared on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand TV show; charismatic frontman Peter Zaremba was a host on MTV’s original late-night alternative broadcast The Cutting Edge; and they were the last band to publicly perform at the World Trade Center’s Windows on the World, a society gig by any standard. Always true to their school, they have flags planted in the old world and the new — they appeared with Andy Warhol on his short-lived talk show Andy Warhol’s Fifteen Minutes, and throughout the mid-1980s they regularly played at the Pyramid Club on Avenue A in New York’s storied East Village, and were instrumental in helping to start Wigstock, the drag queen festival that has become an outrageously vibrant part of the New York City experience.
Never as obviously demented nor self-consciously “psycho” as the Cramps (with whom they shared a rehearsal space in 1977), the Fleshtones could also be found after dark basking in the sick blue light of their television sets, watching late-night horror movies and basking in the weirdness of America, while simultaneously soaking up the on-stage outrages of the Rat Pack, Little Richard, and the Rolling Stones, honing their own live show into an explosive, frenzied manifesto of rock’n’roll gone right.
They routinely tour Spain, where fans make pilgrimages to their shows, and they are equally heralded in Scandinavia, in Italy, and in France, where they have toured incessantly. All over the world — and especially in New York City, the most fickle of towns — younger bands look up to the Fleshtones for lessons in suave stagecraft and unforced enthusiasm. They bring the brio of Chuck Berry and James Brown, with whom they have shared the stage with many times, and the true spirit of CBGB.
In fact, they are the only band who played at CBGB in 1976 to have never taken a significant break from recording or performing since, and their line-up has been remarkably stable, anchored by Zaremba — wildly swinging, funny, uncompromised, and confident, he is equal parts Dean Martin, Mick Jagger, and Count Dracula — and SUPER ROCK guitarist Keith Streng, who seemingly flies through the air. They are backed by one of the most solid rhythm sections in the world, the decidedly Charlie Watts less-is-more-but-do-it-with-panache drumming of Bill Milhizer, who’s held the chair for forty years, and newcomer Ken Fox on bass, who has served for a mere thirty. Previously, those spots had been filled my luminary mercenaries with pedigree, including Clem Burke from Blondie on drums, and Fred Smith (Television) and Andy Shernoff (the Dictators) on bass, testimony to the Fleshtones OG punk rock roots and authenticity in a world run over by poseurs and off-the-rack frauds.
The Fleshtones were always oddly evolved in a plasma pool of retrograde wannabes — this is band that promises a party of the least-juvenile sort. And that is why they have proudly worn the SUPER ROCK title since they came howling and gyrating out of the gate. They are the rare thing, like the Grand Canyon – no matter how great you have been told they are , when you finally get to see them for yourself, it is actually much better than any hype.
Evel Knievel once told me that “American hero” is the shortest lived of all professions. The Fleshtones are here to tell everyone he was wrong. The Fleshtones stand tall as the last real thing in America.
Stare into the Face of the Screaming Werewolf.
Long live SUPER ROCK!
— Mike Edison, New York City
The Nervous Eaters are an original rock and roll band from Boston, MA who helped define the Boston underground garage/punk rock scene of the late 70’s. The band was formed by Steve Cataldo on the North Shore of Boston in Beverly, MA.
Fueled by the raw sounds of Link Wray, early Chicago Blues greats and British guitar legends Beck, Clapton and Page, the Nervous Eaters created a raw edgy song style uniquely their own. The band consisted of Steve Cataldo lead vocals and lead guitar, Stanley Clarke vocals and rhythm guitar, Rob Skeen vocals and bass guitar and Jeff Wilkinson on drums.
They debuted in March of 1976 under the management of Jimmy Harold, owner of the legendary nightclub “The Rat” in Boston. The band released their first of two singles for Rat Records that included the hit song “Loretta” which became one of the city’s most endearing rock and roll anthems. The second single featured the punk classic “Just Head” one of the bands most popular songs.
The Nervous Eaters were one of the more popular rock & roll bands in the Northeast, eventually headlining at venues throughout the United States and Europe. The band has opened for numerous National Acts that included Iggy Pop, Squeeze, The Go Go’s, The Pretenders, The Police, The Ramones and The Split Enzs. Other bands from the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Asia have covered songs by the Nervous Eaters
Ric Ocasek of The Cars produced a demo for the band that was picked up by Elektra Records and released nationally in 1980. They have also recorded for Penimman Records, No Tomorrow Records and Ace of Hearts Records. The band was signed by Wicked Cool Records in 2021 with new songs to be released during 2022.
The current band is Steve Cataldo on Lead guitar and lead vocals, Brad Hallen on Bass, back-up vocals, Adam Sherman on Rhythm guitar, back-up vocals and David McLean on Drums.

After playing for 20 years, Michael Coppola, on a mission to solve the age old problem of executing jazz piano voicing on guitar, created a tuning for an 8 stringed instrument. This new type of guitar, with inner high end strings was the predecessor to the 9 string "hydra", which became Coppola’s instrument for life.
Michael Coppola has become one of a small handful of guitarists who have pushed the boundaries of the instrument, and the only to come up with this unique tuning. Reviews of his CDs have been filled with descriptions such as unique, amazing, mindboggling, magical, inventive and so much more.
He has played at major guitar shows and concerts throughout the world including the
Montreal Jazz Festival, The Chet Atkins Festival, Namm, and many others, as well as
some of the country’s top jazz clubs such as the Blue Note, The Iridium,
Knickerbocker and many others.
Mainly a solo artist, Coppola has also performed or recorded with many of today’s top
musicians, especially guitarists such as Gene Bertoncini, Jack Wilkins, Tony Purrone,
Howard Alden, Stephen Bennett, Tommy Emmanuel, and Joscho Stephan. Michael
was a regular guest on Monday nights at the Iridium, invited by Les Paul himself.
Lately, he has been performing with his 17 year old prodigy daughter Michaela, who is
the CT high school Allstate jazz guitarist as well as the national honor ensemble jazz
guitarist (#1 in the country).
Michael Coppola’s album Return Of The Hydra was chosen as a top ten pick for the
year 2002, in Coda Magazine. His original composition "Movin", released on the New
Impressions album, was a winner in the 2002 John Lennon Song Competition.
Reviews and articles about his work have appeared in numerous magazines including:
Guitar Player, Just Jazz Guitar, Jazztimes, 20th Century Guitar, and Fingerstyle
Guitar. Michael was listed as a main entry in acclaimed critic Scott Yanow's 2013 book
"The Great Jazz Guitarists, the ultimate guide". Yanow names Coppola "The master
of the 9 string guitar".
