The Duke Of Surl
The Duke Of Surl is the solo recording project of Massachusetts native Will Brown.
The project started in 2015 when Will’s long-time band, The World War I’s, was on hiatus. When he wasn’t at work building explosion proof doors, Will was in an old mill building in Passaic, NJ, abusing ¼” tape with the ‘60’s inspired grooves and the ‘70’s inspired fuzz that would become his debut LP Ham Radio.
Still unsure of the project’s next step, Will sent his record out to a few labels that specialize in DIY Rock n’ Roll and ultimately found a perfect home in Brooklyn’s King Pizza Records who released Ham Radio on cassette in March of 2017.
Today, The Duke Of Surl is based out of Milan, Italy, where Will now resides. He has shoehorned his tape machine into his bedroom closet and is currently working on 3 stand alone singles due out in late 2017 as well as his 2nd full length which will come out in 2018.
At its core, the music of The Duke Of Surl is meant to be played live for people who want to dance and Will frequently heads back to the states to tour. With a lineup consisting of Will (guitar/vocals), Sam Trioli (drums), Mike Fiorentino (guitar), and Paul Travisano (bass), The Duke Of Surl has completed 2 tours of the Northeast and is embarking on a month-long run down the entire East Coast of the United States in the Fall!
The Right Offs
"We're The Right Offs. We play rock 'n roll nice and loud. Connecticut is where we're from. When we speak we shout and when we play we entertain. Maybe it's art, maybe it's music, maybe it's just what we love. Nothing wasted; not one movement, syllable or glance. You'll see us coming out of the corner of your eye and we'll leave it to you to try and turn away."
Marvelous Liars is a rock power-trio from New London, CT. Members include guitarist/singer Nicholas Johns, drummer Shane O'Connell, and bassist Nick Cancelmo. In just over two years they've hit the regional circuit hard, playing NYC, Rhode Island, Boston, Philly and many Connecticut shows including New London's "I Am Fest". In March 2015 they released their debut full-length album, "Another Castaway", with high praise from both fans and critics alike.
"Take the swagger and strut of The Stones, mix with some QOTSA-style desert fuzz, and throw in some catchy vocal melodies a la The Strokes, and you still won't exactly nail down Marvelous Liars. The Connecticut rock n rollers are just that, embodying the vibe of old-school rock with a modern edge." -The Deli Magazine New England
"Through smooth charisma and unbridled amplification, New London, CT trio Marvelous Liars capture the essence of rock & roll." -New Noise Magazine
"A blossoming talent that embraces various rock influences and some indisputable classics, renders smoky riffs and delivers fun rock’n’roll with a modern edge to it."- Idioteq
"..Songs are tightly wound, with starts and stops, precise hits and accents, riffs that compel you to stick the landings." -CT Now
"Clustered with power chords, and stand-on-the-dance-floor-and-scream-along choruses, the tunes comprise a brisk blast of timeless rock."-R. Koster, The Day
In June 2016, the band won three "Whalie Awards", including Best Rock Act, Best Rock Song and Indie/Rock Album of the Year. In addition to consistent regional touring, the band recently wrapped up their sophomore full-length album, tracked on the Neve mixing console that captured Nirvana's In Utero, John Lennon's Double Fantasy, and AC/DC's Back in Black. The band bleeds rock 'n' roll, with hints of blues and punk blended into the equation. Marvelous Liars' influences include Queens of the Stone Age, The Beatles, Arctic Monkeys and many more. The Telegraph Recording Company released their sophomore self-titled album in July 2017, available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Pandora and more.
