Blending rhythmic acoustics and bass with bright, melodic vocals, Hatfield carves out a dynamic and individual sound. Subject matter varies from personal to fundamental concepts, culminating in the sense that life is a cycle of triumph and struggle, necessary in forming one's identity. The message is one of introspection, acceptance and forgiveness.
Former Cloud Nothings guitarist and Chomp frontman Joe Boyer has been trying out new sounds. The Cleveland native blends garage rock, punk and synth to create a stunning project called Joey Sprinkles. It’s a bit of a departure from his previous work while being experimental and exploring different musical ideas.
"Joey Sprinkles is a fresh alter ego from a songwriter you may well be familiar with. Real name Joe Boyer, the American musician previously worked with Columbus punk band Chomp, and also grafted alongside Cloud Nothings.
In contrast to those hard-edged manoeuvres, though, Joey Sprinkles is a melodic affair, recalling those late 70s power pop cuts but in a defiantly 21st century context."
