Kurt Baker Combo
After many years playing up and down, coast to coast, over the pond and beyond with his group The Leftovers, and solo group The Kurt Baker Band, rock n’ roller power pop musician Kurt Baker decided he needed a new change of scenery and packed his bags for the city of Madrid, Spain. Landing there in 2013 after a successful tour of Spain and France with his American bandmates, Baker began playing solo acoustic gigs around the Iberian peninsula. It wasn’t long before offers were coming in to play more electric gigs in Spain, however the only problem was, Baker’s band was over 3,000 miles away. Hence, the Kurt Baker Combo was formed, a new group consisting of Juancho Lopez on bass guitar (Paul Collins Beat, Peralta, The Crepitos), Jorge Colldan (Holy Sheep, The Flash, Señor No) on guitar and backing vocals, and Sam Malakiam on drums (Alrighters, Los Platillos Volantes). While continuing in the tradition of the power pop sound Baker has been known for, the Combo also brings in elements of Pub Rock, Garage and no holds bar wild rock n’ roll a la The MC5, The Remains, Eddie and the Hotrods and Redd Kross. The group presented their first full length in 2015, a live album titled “Muy Mola Live”, recorded during a wild Monday night concert in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The energy and the hooks of Baker’s setlist regulars like “Don’t Go Falling In Love”, and “Everybody Knows” are pushed into the red, as well as offering new songs like the rollicking “Aorta Baby”, and the mersey beat throwback of “Tried and True”. A tour in support of “Muy Mola Live” took the band to Italy, Holland, Norway, Sweden and many dates across Spain. In the summer of 2015, the group began to prepare songs for their first studio full length. That album, titled “In Orbit” featured 10 songs of catchy and irresistible rock n’ roll released on Little Steven Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool Records in the fall of 2016. The “In Orbit” tour saw the band zig zag all over Europe again, and also a 3 week tour of the United States, playing exciting concerts down the East Coast and the Midwest. By October 2017, the band was ready to recored their follow up LP for Wicked Cool records, titled “Let’s Go Wild”. A combination of all things fun and rock n’ roll, the album sees the Combo explore and expand on their many influences. “Let’s Go Wild” will be released on May, 18th 2018, with the first single “So Lonely” out on March 30th.
Kris Rodgers & The Dirty Gems
Known as "rock n' roll's secret weapon", Kris 'Fingers' Rodgers has been a recording & touring sideman in top touring garage rock and power pop acts like The Connection, Scott Sorry, The New Trocaderos, Bullet Proof Lovers, and Kurt Baker Band for years. Kris Rodgers started The Dirty Gems in 2011 as a throwback piano rock n' roll trio. The trio quickly formed into a full rock outfit in 2014, resulting in their first single, "Headlines" being featured by Little Steven Van Zandt as "Coolest Song in the World" on Steven's Sirius/XM radio station "The Underground Garage".
2017 is the year that Kris Rodgers takes center stage on his solo, full length debut, “Losing the Frequency”. Joining the Dirty Gems and returning the favor on this release, is crowned prince of Power Pop, Kurt Baker, taking over bass duties. Stand out, sing-a-long tracks, reminiscent of Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and Billy Joel’s “Glass Houses” include, “Revolution”, “I Know”, and “Rock ’n Roll Radio”. Hitting you smack dab in the face, like Todd Rudgren’s revved up motorcycle on Meat Loaf’s opening moments of “Bat Out Of Hell” is the album’s opening track, “Let Go”. Kris Rodgers has delivered an album of 70’s inspired arena rock gems, bashing piano keys with a raspy-throated growl that transcends to FM Radio Album Oriented Rock’s heyday.
