Catching Air

"I love this movie. It is one of the very few documentaries we got in this year that made me laugh out loud. Repeatedly. Catching Air never takes itself too seriously, but it does pay deserved respect to these rock & roll dreamers. From Andrew "The Flying Finn" to "Moms Jeans Jeanie," and every blessed windmill master in-between, we are treated to a mouth-dropping spectacle of virtuosity and balls. It's the sort of movie anyone can play along to, literally. Just make sure to bring along your sense of humor and some boxed wine." - Gorman Bechard, Executive Director/Lead Programmer

Through multiple intersecting storylines, Catching Air follows a cast of memorable characters as the air guitar community gets them through the both the best—and toughest—times of their lives. We’re talking about true love and life-and-death situations here, people. It also follows the dreams of three veterans all vying for the U.S. title during one season, and tells the story of one musician’s unlikely and tradition-defying journey to winning the Air Guitar World Championships. Through showing their passion and dedication to this unusual craft, the filmmakers hope to inspire others' hidden creativity.

DIRECTOR'S BIO: JAMIE HITCHINGS loved film from a young age. So much so Jamie decided to become a filmmaker specializing in post-production, whose work reflects an interest in technology and questions how it affects humanity. Currently Hitchings teaches college level post-production and film history. Her first feature-length documentary Catching Air was born out of a strong desire to create something that most people are not familiar with. Through this documentary, Hitchings hopes to spread knowledge of Air Guitar but also inspire others to explore things outside of their daily lives.
